cork grip question

has or would it work ? i am in the process of cutting a thumb grip (indention) on the top of my handle and was wondering would it work ok to apply some epoxy to just that area just to treat and protect that area from wearing away or being messed up?

The mail came a few minutes ago and there was a box of 50 1 ounce spools of 100% polyester embroidery thread. My daughter had sent it to me. She does embroidery and this is what she uses.
