Terry,

Thinking about doing some "threadless wraps"?
Will one spool work for you? Have you ever looked at natural silk?

Hi Robbie
Good to see you checking us out. Welcome aboard. What are you doing since Fishhawk?
I was wondering how the threadless wraps were done but I have been too busy to research it.
I hope you stick around.
Pat

Thanks Pat!! I enjoying checking out this site as I have some good friends here and I enjoy watching the progress of R.F.S. I am also looking to get into building this year so I am searching for ideas, etc!!
In regards to "threadless wraps", use 3/0 white or natural silk. Your finish will be a 50-50 mix of denatured alcohol and your favorite light build finish. The wraps will disappear and it will appear that your guides are floating on the blank. Other colored silks will turn transluscent but white will disappear. It is an awesome look and loved by bamboo builders...although I also like the look on graphite or pretty glass blanks. NOTE....it might take 2 days for the finish to dry as denatured alcohol or acetone will slow things down but it is worth it! Do not use CP!

Robbie, First thanks for the reply.

and yes i was planning on doing a "version" of the invisible wrap to go along with my scrimshawed elk horn section for my rod handle.

i was going to try and get some of it done for this weekend at FTU's rod builders show but still being a beginner it may take longer, heheh .

That will be one sweet looking rod!! I just checked and I have no white here but I know the folks at RodDancer will have some and should sample you a spool. I will contact them. Can you pm me your address??
Also, I love your art!...good stuff!

Thanks Terry! Scott is a great guy and has a lot of passion for this craft as he was a rod builder first. I look forward to seeing photos of the finished rod. I first fell in love with scrimshaw handles when I saw the work of Terry Henson.
