Thread color changes

I am just starting to get into rod building and this is my first post. I have a few questions regarding color preserver. I am using Flex Coat CP and Thread Sealer.

I bought a few various colors of non NCP thread all made by Gudebrod . Some colors are not ones that I would probably ever use on a rod but found some thread on clearance at Academy so I am using it for practice.

I understand the thread will change colors and become darker when the CP is applied. However I see the following.

- Some colors become somewhat translucent. In some cases the black of the base is noticeable or if there is an under wrap that color becomes noticeable.

- I noticed that sometimes the color change is not consistent across the wrap when the CP is applied.

How do you overcome these problems or am I doing something wrong?

i feel your pain, i have stripped the rod i am building 2 times already.

i have been trying to match a real gold color and every thing i have used comes out a muddy brown, this last go-around i am using clear fingernail polish and to heck with it !

I USE CASON'S CRYSTAL CLEAR CP AND IT WILL TURN DARK WHEN YOU FIRST PUT IT ON BUT IT WILL RETURN TO IT'S ORIGINAL COLOR WHEN IT DRIES.

If you have a blotchy appearence of the wraps that's usually due to not having the threads tightly packed together and the tiny spaces which are ahard to see before CP or finish is applied are now rearing their ugly head.

You also need to be sure the entire wrap is fully coated with CP and completely sealed and extended past the wraps onto the blank so epoxy can't get underneith.

One more thing, Flex-Coat C.P. & some others have the acrylics in suspension and should be stirred before use or what you could be applying is mostly water. Stir it up, don't shake it up & make bubbles in the bottle.
