Shipping Help

Shipped the Copperhead Rod last week in 4"PVC with pvc end caps with styrofoam glued to the inside and styro spacers along the length of the rod and the rod was in a Stick Jacket. My cousin recieved it yesterday and the rod was ok but the end cap on the tube was shattered. Thankfully clear tape held the shattered pieces in place. I hate using UPS and I hope someone out there can give me some sound advice.
Do I have to use SCH 40?
I know of only a couple of ways to damage the end cap.

Rusty, its like my art when i ship it out to the buyer, i get the willies knowing the art work is a one of a kind and is not replaceable.

so i spend the extra bucks and insure it to the hilt, pad it, box it, tape it and bless it as it leaves my hands.

my suggestion is, you answered your own question, and insure it

I use the fiber-tape for the ends, and then the clear packing tape. I also use the post office to ship, w/ insurance. Knocking on wood as I type.

I use FedEx (insured) and have yet to have a problem. Just shipped my second rod to Germany without a hitch.

I'm with MLV, Paul and Randy..... I worked for UPS for a 3 of years and you do even want to know all that crazy stuff that happens while a package is in transit (with UPS)..... I always ship FedEx when ever I do my shipping. Not to say that the same thing doesn't happen at FedEx but I feel more comfortable not having seen all of that first hand with FedEx.

The post office told me that it was to big in inches. Insuring is a must, I agree. And I will try fedex. Thanks for the input

Sorry, Rusty, it didn't dawn on me that it was 4" when I said post office...must have been a spinning rod, which I don't do many of.
