Terry,

Try using Flexcote Lite or Threadmaster Lite and cut it with the IPA or acetone. It should have the consistency of water. Place a small amount on the wraps using a fly tying probe. Ultimately, you want to soak the threads. After @ 15 minutes, wipe off the access finish and add another coat.

Hey Terry - it takes a bit to explain - it can be a tricky process at first, and I need to write up a detailed tutorial giving step-by-step instructions. Until then, did you wrap the guide too tight? What thread size/color/brand did you use? Also, did you start at one end of the wrap, and "chase out" the air as you applied the thinned finish? If you call me I think we can figure it out... just don't give up!

I'm affraid the Isopropyl was the wrong thinning solvent to use. Acetone is what ya need to use to thin epoxy.

as i understand it the white i have has a dye in it to make it whiter , BUT i am going to retry it again with denatured alcohol and i will also try this new silk i have coming in .

here is what i have sifted through stuff and here is what has been recommended,
Pearsall's Gossamer, YLI or Gudebrod should work fine in the white or off white or raw silk.

update on invisible wrap test .

new silk thread from Scott of Roddancer (thanks Scott), and a long clear concise "How To" from Keven G. and some Denatured alcohol ( Acitone has to much of a strong vapor for this one lunger) heheh .

i used standard Flex Coat and mixed it as per instructions after mixing i added the same amount of Denatured alcohol and mixed the hell out of it.

(note to self and the rest of ya) , it kicks somewhat fast over and above normal Flex Coat and was glad i did my normal "hurry up and get it done".

now these pictures are of the first "thinned soaking thread coat" only and have not had the second covering "finish" coat applied.

Way to go, Terry! Mucho gusto on the right. I was afraid the acetone would do some crazy thangs w/ the graphite blank...DNA looks like it works just fine.

Kevin, you need to educate the rest of us (the ones of us that don't know) so we can do the invisible wraps too

Sorry Doug i dont lend Kevin out, i might be talked into renting him out for the day for a price, heheh

Raymond, yep, told myself if it even looked like it wasent going to work i had already started thinking of alternative ways to make something else kool for eye wraps.

now i just gata hold my breath 7 more times for the real rod.

oh Kevin, i did try to "redo" the bad thread with the mixture but it didnt help it at all.
