FTU Rod Builders Day

Hey guys.
Just wanted to let everyone know that I really enjoyed the event at FTU yesterday, and give a personal thanks to all who sponsored or contributed. The seminars were informative and fun - we learned quite a bit of really interesting stuff - rod blank manufacturing 101 (that really cut through all the misinformation out there), Tiger/Halo wraps, Rodger Seiders of Flexcoat did demos of his tools, Bill Cason demo-ed his incredible CP and a new finish, Joe Meehan from American Tackle was on hand with new products(I love AmTak components) - a really great guy, and Silvia Davis of Bullard International (Diamond II rod finish) was there with new products(you gotta see them), plus lots more - all in all, a really great show with too many things to list... plus, I couldn't be everywhere I wanted to, so I'm sure I missed a bunch... darn it - I need a clone! lol

Again, thanks guys - it was great and I had a blast... can't wait till the next one!
And a special thanks to Terry - good job bro... very good job indeed.

I wish I could have been there. I really missed seeing all of my friends and their great rods. Hopefully I can make the next one. There is so much going on with our club and RFS. The training that Terry has set up and is mostly doing is terrific. I am going to try to be more helpful to him. Doug and Trey are really stepping up to help me with RFS. Terry G has overhalled our website and gotten it looking good. Our membership is skyrocketing. I am glad to see alot of younger more energetic people coming onboard. We need to work on getting more females involved in rodbuilding, they are naturally more artistic and detail oriented.
I would also like to thank Danny and all of the FTU staff for allowing us to participate with them and allow us to take over their conference room on a regular basis. Thanks Danny for hiring Terry, now I know where to find him. LOL
I know you all had a great time yesterday.
Pat

YES, i also enjoyed Yesterday , got to talk to old and "new" friends, learned a bunch about rod manufacturing (if i could only remember half of it).

Scrim sounds like something that should be off of a fish and IM-8 sounds like i am a kid of eight years old - any way i digress .

thanks Terry J and FTU and the guys that came out to do a show and tell .

now i guess i gata get back to working on my rod.

I too had a great time meeting new people and I'm glad that there was no test on who they all were by the end of the day.
Thankyou Jerry Poindexter for your tips on weaving and I enjoyed talking to you.
Terry Jones, if your interested I can send you 3oz or so of HOK Marbelizer to play with. A friend gave me a quart and a qt. goes a long way in rod building. 6cc goes along way in rod building. The black or black pearl I basecoat with is acrylic (Createx to be exact). Then the marbelizer. It usually dries to the touch in5 minutes or less. Then I use a Bulldog Adhesion Promotor then a Valspar Clearcoat which is water white clear. Its really a simple process and is extremely durable. The adhesion Promotor is for rubber bumpers and plastics and things like that. It allows for movement of any kind w/o cracking. It comes in a large aresol can and lasts a long time. My first can is over 2 years old and I've still got over 90% left.
Thanks for all who did presentations and to Danny for letting us use his meeting room. I too learned about rod blank construction, much I did not know

I had a great time, too! It was really nice to finally get to meet alot of folks that I had only known on the 'net. I enjoyed the seminars, as well as visiting w/ the vendors. Doug Williams gave me sweet supply of Texas quarters...BIG thanks, Doug!

Very sorry I missed this one! I was committed to fishing a tournament and went to fish the brown waters of Mansfield instead... I'm looking forward to the next one...
