Giant (one pound plus) baits for big largemouth

require a stout FW swimbait rod. This is one of my pro staff with a 7XH rod, with abalone inlay, that can handle baits up to 18 ounces. And a shore caught bass on the giant bait.

An inner city bass on the "Che" rod...

World class wonder weaver, Owen Dare, did a fine weave on a piece of pipe, and sent it to me. I built a 9 ft. 3 inch bass rod--long for fishing from shore, or high places. Not expecting to catch anything at all, I was pitching a WAR jig in a canal in Downtown Osaka...and I got a good one!

Fly fishing for trout, in Japan, with BD's Matt Smith

Matt, who is currently serving his 17th year in the US Navy, came to visit me in Japan. I took him fly fishing, and we caught some rainbow trout, Iwana (purple char, with white spots) and even a stocked Japanese steelhead, called "sakuramasu" in Japanese.
