welcome aboard Jason, you can get all kind of information from this forum, there are some really nice people on it.

Fishing Tackle Unlimited has rod building classes several time a year and it is very informative. Terry Jones (employee of F.T.U.) is the man to contact.

Thanks Doug! I look forward to learning from the guys and gals here on the forum. I'm about to start getting my equipment and materials pretty soon. Quick question; What are the essential tools you need to get started? Iv been looking at rod wrappers, dryers, and reamers but
I'm in the dark as what is really needed to start? Thanks for the help.....

houdy Jason and welcome to the board.

equipment needed , i made my own had wrapper (buy you can get a hand wrapper from the web or at FTU), a small supply of blades to cut thread, not needed but sure helps is a dryer motor set up for rotating the finish epoxy other wise ya gata do it by hand.

then epoxy's, brushes, brush cleaner , denatured alcohol for cleaning the rod/hands/etc. (also works for getting epoxy out of you shirt and jeans when ya drip the epoxy on them, heheh)

and from there its only a matter of how much ya want to spend, enjoy.

Jason, Terry pretty well summed it up, I think one of the first things you need to get is a booklet put out by Flex-Coat called "Step bt Step Rod Building". To me this a very helpful tool, cost is about 4.50 and well worth it.

rod building becomes addictive, so be prepared

Hey Terry thanks for the info! Doug i went on FTU's website and ordered that book from flex coat. I plan buying a rod wrapper and dryer pretty soon..... Is worth buyting a kit to start with or should i just order the kind of rod and components i want to build?

as a side note if you join the TRB you do get a 10 percent savings on all rod building stuff through FTU.

and on another side note get with Terry Jones (FTU) and talk to him (very knowledgeable about building rods and components) and he can help you select your rod stuff.
