O.K Guys...I guess you can say I am blowing off some steam !!
Two weeks ago, one of my older customers asked me to rebuild a GLoomis rodblank for him....(The GLoomis snapped right above the foregrip)He supplied the rodblank.... He brought in the old handle assemble and wanted me to use it on the new rodblank....(there was no way I could ream out the rod from the old handle assemby and use it) So I used a new reelseat, new handle and foregrip.....took off the guides from the old GLoomis and smooth the tips out...glued the handle assembly..wrapped the guides and did the epoxy work.....
So....since they are old customers, I only charged them $125.00 for all that work.....and when I told her the price, she said.."That Much " !!" I thought it would be cheaper" !!) My friend, told me he charged $75.00 six years ago, so I feel I am in line with the price...
I also squeezed this rod in my schedule so it would be ready before I went on vacation !!
This is the kind of stuff that makes me want to stop dealing with the public !! End of Rant !!...

Mary Lou I don't know how much you usually charge to build a rod but it seems that whatever you charged the first time minus the price of the blank and guides would have been reasonable. I always like to discuss the price upfront with the understanding that if something changes once the strip down starts I will call the customer and we will discuss it again. Then everyone knows what to expect. Pat

Pat...... In the original converstion with this customer, he told me he had three rods that needed minor repairs !!..Rebuilding a rod is not a minor repair in my eyes.... This is the first rod that I had ever rebuilt...so I'll consider it a " Lesson Learned."....for the future... Thanks for the input.. MaryLou
I thought it was a rod that you had built. Since you didn't build it you should have charged full price minus the cost of the blank. I have found that if you cut your price one time that customer expects the price to be cut everytime and that they will get rods built for all of their friends and family. I learned not to cut my price, I might give a rod away but I never cut my price. Pat
