This customer asked if I could find a ratttlesnake skin to put in the seperate grip section of a 7 foot X-Heavy bass rod.

So, I did my best, but found out after I had put it on, that it was not a rattlesnake, but rather a copperhead.DSC09676.jpgDSC09662.jpg

The customer liked it, despite it not being the type of snake that warns you, before injecting poison in your leg...

I have been using Bullard black thread--it is jet black, and easy to work with.

looks nice G. did you remove the scales of get it that way?

Greg, according to MaryLou, who does a lot snakeskin grips, the copperhead is the most difficult to do because it is so fragile.

 It still has the scales on it...two or three fell off right at the edge of the strip of skin, so I had to start again---I wasted about 3/4 of an inch. 

It may look "scaleless" because I brushed the coating on the same direction as the scales "lay down".   

This is the first time I have used copperhead--I think it was not that difficult to put on due to the fact that Kerry (Okie Man) did such a good job preparing the snakeskin.

Or, perhaps I got lucky with it.
