You will need to actually read this out loud: Please say: "Tool Shed Fat Wrist"
and
"Bullhead Catfish"
To me, they sound the same.
I will assume that you are talking about big cats--flatheads, blues, and big channel cats. In Japan, we have the "Biwako-Onamazu". I have build rods for both, and while far from an expert, the GUSA blanks, especially the 85 Mega-Mag, is a good one. Mark at Acidrod carries them, I think.
There is a really nice guy on BD by the name of "Flamekeeper"and he builds a lot of cat-rods. I noticed he used to use the 85 Mag, and 85 Mega Mag as well. I think he is in Kentucky, right in the heart of catfish country--you may want to give him a shout.
thanks G, a buddy that just started doing a sting as a fishing Guide and has a few rods that he provides for his customers and are , heheh well banged up as one could imagine .
i went fishing with him and i carried my "scrimshaw rod" and he had asked where i got it , and i told him i had been taking rod building classes at FTU and that the rod was my first real rod i had done by myself. well one thing led to another and he asked me to look into building he a few "cat" rods, all was good till i informed him just the cost of the parts alone.
heheh , he said he would need to make a run to Academy when they had some rods on sale!
G, I just noticed your profile pic while drinking my morning cup of coffee... that's the first time I've had coffee shoot out of my nose in years. Great... now I've got to clean the monitor and keyboard out before it dries... all my notes are stained, and that was just a waste of good Starbucks Sumatra as well. Damn it.
Terry, I grew up in "Catfish Country" and have caught more Gingers than you could shake an Oscar Mayer at. (Like Foxes, Catfish love 'em too.)
Now, a blank doesn't care if you make a casting or spinning rod out of it, but a faster blank seems to work better for Ginger on a casting rod. (IMHO) What type rod does he prefer? (Actually, I prefer a slower and heavier spinning rod for kitties)

Terry, it if funny you mention FTU as your rod building class local. I received an honorary doctorate from FSU....
Kevin, it is interesting that you notes are now stained; so is my life.
Terry, If you were to build up a Phenix Black Diamond 867ML, you could not possibly go wrong. Much. G
