Off the subject of fishing, but then again not really--this is about my uncle Bill Bullard who was Gene's big brother. He and Gene were fishing buddies when they could manage it. Both had busy lives, but when the two got together you may as well pull up a seat and sit back for a full day of non-stop fun and the race for who got the most laughs never ended.
When Gene and my mother were youngsters Bill was shot down over France and captured by the Germans. Bill escaped twice from a German prison camp and on the second escape the prison camps were freed. A story of a hero--our hero.
The people of a little town, called Staplehurst erected a monument to the men who protected and ultimately won freedom for so many people. These people, many in their 80's and 90's, came together to honor those heroes.
My uncle, although 90 years old with failing health, made the trip to Europe. He said, "I just have to."
Bill is in page number 14, standing in prayer, holding his cowboy hat.
Yes, he is still with us. He is there now for the unveiling. We were all so afraid for him to go. My mother received these photos this morning. This is Bill and his wife of many many years, Birdie. I thought the last one of them standing together was so sweet--a life time of memories between them.
Thank you Terry, I will pass your message along.

My youngest son was married last Sunday 6/6/2010. I told him he shouldn't have a problem remembering his anniversary with it falling on "D" day. He said "D" day?? I wanted to sock him! He won't forget now though!
