while fishing yesterday i noticed that just behind the horn for about an inch the cork is broken on the rod, must have happend when i got that big jack.
i had no idea that that blank flexed that much, am open to suggestions for a repair as i dont wish to remove the reel seat and cork handle.
what do you think if i took some epoxy and thinned it a bit and just soaked it into the cork?, would it work?
I wouldn't try the epoxy especially thinned. Might use some TightBond wood glue & cork dust then sand it after.
Pix would help! It's also possible to cut out the dammaged area & replace with new rings. That's the better repair too although it is more work.
Frankly, I'd proably do the TightBond & be done with it or just leave it alone and call it a battle scar that will forever remined you of your winning battle with da'Jack
Dang Terry, that sux...looks like Mr Jack got in the last word afterall... Bring it by the shop and we can see what Joey thinks...he's been repairing stuff like that for a looong time. My guess would be to spilt some cork rings...cut out the area...hand fit them...then glue them in and wrap the area like you would abalone or a veneer. You will most likey need to turn it to match the shape...I can do that for you if you dont have a way!
