blanks

dumb question, but what other purpose does the paint do for a blank other than hide the raw rod underneath  ?

and what would be the easiest way to remove the paint , and no i'd never use paint stripper thats way to harsh it.

I'd ask why you need to remove the paint... to make it lighter or are you just trying to change the look? I've tried sanding off paint before, and it's really easy to sand too far into the blank and weaken it. If you just want to change the look, you can always paint over it again. If you want a raw graphite look, you could try sanding the paint off with a high grit paper. I don't know how stripper would affect it...

I understand the lighter "citrus" type paint strippers are fine to use.

I use 200 grit or finer sand paper first then very fine wet/dry paper with no worries.
Just don't get in a hurry and you'll be fine.

Finish is just for pretty! It don't add any protection really.
