welcome aboard Travis, you'll enjoy the club. counting you, kyle, trey shaw and myself we now have four "river rats" from harlingen
Wow, H-town representin! It's true... Travis was the one that really got me going on building. Great guy, great fisherman, great asset to the club! Welcome aboard cuz!
I'm an old x-rodbuilder who still has an interest in the craft. Some of my designs can be found in "Custom Rod Thread Art" and "Advanced Custom Rod Building" but they are nothing compared to what you guys are doing today. For the past 20 years I have been making custom pool cue cases for most of the top players in the world.
I will be checking in occasionally but mostly lurking.
Houdy Travis, i am Terry Goode, way up in South Houston. Sounds like ya need a kitchen pass from moma to go fishing , why not take the kids and wet a hook for a bit and give her a break .
Hay Jack, pool sticks huh, and boxes and thread work dang man good for ya. and welcome

Wow Jack! We are honored to have you on our board! this is such a surprise and exciting to see you here. I looked at your Pool Cue cases and they are incredible! http://www.justiscases.net/gallery1.html
The rods you did in your day were just as "state of the art" as what you are saying the current rods are...everything is relative! It is easy to see the talents you used in rod building in your cases....... outstanding! and you can lurk if you want, but I know some of the younger (and older) guys here would like to see some of your rods!
Thanks for dropping in! Hope to see some more of you!
To those of you who do not know who Jack Justis is, do any amount of research on our craft and you'll understand. Jack, you are an idol to the craft and it it such an honor to have you among us.

I remember hearing of you. I have seen your work many times. Glad to have someone of your standing on board. Post some pictures of your pool cue cases. I bet they are terrific. Pat

Jack,
I am absolutely thrilled that you dropped in on all of us....truly an honor sir! I haven't forgotten about the magazine, I am dropping it in the mail this weekend.
For those of you who may not be old enough (as old as I am in other words!) to remember Jack he is truly famous for his thread art and inlay work. He was very active during the years Gene owned and operated Bullard International. You will not find a better craftsman or anyone more knowledgeable than Jack. Kevin Graybeal put it perfectly, "Jack Justis has forgotten more about rod building than most of us will ever learn." No truer statement. A true craftsman indeed--you need only look at the work he does now to see that his talent is all-encompassing.
WELCOME Jack!

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. As time permits, I will post some photos of my early builds. In the meantime, here is a photo of wraps done on a pool cue for the first edition of the "Blue Book of Pool Cues.
Wow Jack! Those are some awesome crosswraps! That Thunderbird is incredible! Beautiful finish too! Cant wait to see some of your other pix...thank you for posting up!
Hi all, Very few people that know me, even know the name listed on this web site "Greg Vella", but I was born in the greatest country on the planet, the USA, Gregory S. Vella, and bestowed the title of 100 ton Master (Captain) by the Untied States Coast Guard. So, everyone calls me Capt. G, or just "G". I have resided in Japan for the past twenty years, and started rod building in the bicentennial year, 1976. I graduated from rod wrapping to rod building, to rod design, and started going at it seriously for the past 13 years, having as many as eleven builders/wrappers working for me. I have worked as professional writer for the past 12 years (fishing mags and newspapers), and also as professional fisherman that did photo shoots all over Japan, and some work in the USA. These days, I wrap rods for my customers, and enjoy going fishing (any type) with my Friends. My life has been about tuna, but I enjoy freshwater bass fishing as well. I took a little fall three years ago, and spent three months in a hospital, much of that in a wheel chair. Today I can walk, but still have issues with my right leg which prevents me from being as active as I used to be. I have five titanium plates and twenty three screws holding the right side of my skull together, and my right wrist/arm was back together nicely with a titanium and screws....call me Robo G. I have met some great people form the great state of Texas over the years, and since joining RB, I have met more. I look forward to seeing all your posts, from beginner to expert level; I hope you have time to look at mine, which will bee much closer to the "beginner" side than the "expert" side.
