Here's a few baits I finished up early this week- all small stuff. I did a bunch of different style lips on these just to see what they would do. I just did two patterns: what I call Black Goldfish and the other is a Fire Tiger/Perch. The Black Goldfish has gold glitter and gold stripes but they are hard to see in the pics. I have some 8" versions that just finished drying last night, I'll post some pic's of them in a day or two.
Those are BEAUTIFUL! Excellent work! I airbrush my rods and I have used a crinoline (netting looking material used in dress) as a mask and the effect looks just like your effect...is that what you used?
Here's the bigger versions. They are 8" in various configurations. The shallow diving Fire Tiger in the minnow body will probably stay in my arsenal. The others dive to about 8 feet and the two deep divers will hit the mid teens. Is it spring yet?!?
I have a fairly large supply of 4x10 redwood that I have been saving for something special. It came out of a 130yr. old building about 10 or 12 years ago. It even has leaded paint still on it. I thought of making some baits with it but I can't bring myself to slice it up that small. I just got rid of about 800' of cedar that was just taking up space, but I did save a 4x6x12 just in case.
You could get a lure or two out of that block of wood! I use a band saw, disc sander, belt sander, and my new router table to shape lures. A little elbow grease on the final sanding and you're done. If you have the tools, start cutting!
After I cut the blanks out with the band saw, i router the edges and then taper them head and tail with the disc sander. All final sanding is done by hand.
I don't live in the classic upper-midwest musky country but we have plenty of them here in PA.
They have a lot of them in Va. also. I found out that they had great many in Tenn too. I fish in Arkansas alot and they have Northern Pike in most of the rivers but the fish and game dept. does NOT acknowledge them at all. Its a big trout state and thats their #1 prority. I've seen alot of trout in a NPikes mouth on many occassions. I have a trout swimbait that the Pike love and I love to rub it into the wildlife officials nose on occasion. So whats the fishing like in Pa.
Rusty, I love catching pike. There are precious few here in central PA.
As far as the fishing around here, I have about 10 acres spread over 2 ponds that are filled with largemouth and pickerel. The local creek, the Tuscarora, (100 yards from my house) is filled with great smallmouth. The local river, the Juniata, is a good water. It has fairly good musky fishing, greatly improved walleye fishing, and a very good bass population. Up until 3 years ago the bass fishing was incredible. 100 fish days were common. We had a big drought a few years back and a bacteria came through and killed off the younger age classes of fish. Our populations are down down but steadily climbing. I have about 6 very good trout streams withing a 10 minute drive of my house. Three of them are your small mountain creeks with good populations of native brookies. The other 3 have native browns in them and one of them holds some monsters up to 28" or so. These are all small streams that average 20ft in width or less.
My only problem is, I don't have enough time to fish them all!

I finished this batch of lures up before the Butler show but didn't get a chance to post any pictures. These are two of the three I have left in this pattern- what I call a Black Sucker.
This first one is an 8" minnow body in a deep diving version. It will hit the mid teens. The second one is a 5" shad body in a deep diving version. It will hit 12-14 feet. There is a little bit of glitter in the first top coat on them that catches the sun nicely.
Silvia, I have to say I had many, many complitments on the quality of the clear coat on the lures. Diamond II seems to be a hit among lure builders.
