Paul, On the first spiral rod I built I followed the method I saw someone online. Basically, set them up conventional style and flip all but the stripper guide 180 degrees and add a bumper guide at 90 degrees between the stripper and next guide. I fished that rod and was thoroughly impressed. I've built many using the same method since then. Some builders suggest that you should have one fewer guides on the spiral vs. the conventional set-up. I build mine with the same amount of guides as a conventional set-up. If using the bumper guide method, you just have to make sure the distance between the stripper and next guide is at least 10 inches or so. Mine are typically about 11 to 11.5 inches. That's just how I do it, everyone likes to builld them differently but this might at least give you a place to start. I've built them like this on FW bass rod and SW rods. Randy.
