I've always just taken for granted that replicating military insignias, unit emblems, logos, & such for placing on fishing tackle (or anything else for that matter) would not get me or the client in any "hot water" with the Government/Military. However, being the cautious person that I am I decided to look into this matter and contacted the Office of the Inspector General via email thru the IG's website.
My corrispondance with the IG's office is copied & pasted here and I'm very happy to see that we ALL now have it in writing that it's perfectly OK to give our clients & RFS recipients this service and we and our client's don't have to be concerned with anyone from JAG!
Raymond,
Thank you for your interest in the United States Army.
That is not a violation of any type of copyright law.
Many soldiers have their unit symbols placed stickers, plaques and numerous other things to show their pride in being a part of that organization.
Thank you for providing this service to them.
Respectfully,
Ms Michele L. Wilkinson, Contractor Cyber Recruiter U.S. Army Recruiting Command MPRI goarmy@usarec.army.mil

I build custom fishing rods and some of my client's are US soldiers. Many times a soldier will request that I replicate their unit or brigade insignia or emblem on the fishing rod.
In doing so, would I be violating any copy-write issues?
