on some sites the rod eyes are in numbers that equate to inches but in some other places "spinning guide set is talks about "groups , i.e. D or E, etc. can anyone explain the difference?, i am lost as to how to figure it out. thanks
Terry, the "D", "E", etc has no meaning for me...it's just how Jann's has them sorted in sets on their website. Guides sizes are measured in mm., some manufacts. measure the diam. from inside the insert, and some measure from inside the metal frame. Generally speaking, REC and Fuji measure inside the frame, the rest inside the insert...A Fuji #6 will have a smaller opening than a Am Tackle #6. I personally don't use preselected guide sets from any of em. Jerry
Hey Terry. Guides are sized in mm at the ID of the frame. So, a size 30 guide measures 30mm at the ID of the frame.
Some retailers, like Janns Netcraft for example, sell pre-selected 'sets' of guides in the size/number/type that they recommend for a particular type/length rod. Their group 'F' set of guides, for example, is for a spinning rod, 7.5 to 8.5/9 foot in length(based on one guide per foot of blank), and contains 8 spinning guides - ranging from sizes 8 to 30mm. Their group 'H' contains 8 casting rod guides in sizes 8 through 12mm. Mind you - these are just examples - there is no standard for "groups" of guides in the industry... these examples are exclusive to Janns. I hope this helps.
thanks guys, being new i never really understood just how all that stuff worked , and now knowing that Janns is doing there own thing i can disregard that dab of info.
in my mind i saw how the line comes off of my spinning reel and kinda just gauged it from there down to the tip and speaking of that who was the "brain" that started calling it a "tiptop", heheh
