My name is Kyle Jud. I currently reside in Jonestown, TX, which is on the north side of Lake Travis near Austin. I build mostly bay and bass rods, with some light offshore stuff mixed in. My website is www.coastalbendrods.com, and my email is kylejud@yahoo.com.

i mainly do pen and ink art work but fish for spiritual relaxation as often as i can .
Hey guys! Sorry I've been out of touch for so long... as many of you know, 2009 was a crappy year for me... I just wish it had been a Crappie (Spec) year instead! lol But things are starting to look up... in fact, I may be in the Houston area in the next few months... perhaps for good. I can't wait to meet everyone in person. I want you guys to know that I'm proud to be an honorary Texan (Florida IS East Texas, right?) and Inaugural Member of TRB. This group of rod builders are some of the best anywhere, and I know ya'll have some really good ideas that should be in print. Terry and I would love to hear about any ideas for an article you'd like to have printed - any topic concerning rod building, and especially those about TRB's Veteran Projects. And while I'm thinking of it - God bless you all for the wonderful and selfless work you do to honor our Nations Heroes. The rest of the Country should definitely be made more aware of what this group does.

I also am the admin for the Texas Rod Builders page on Facebook, Come be a fan! http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/pages/Texas-Rod-Builders/182327782627?ref=ts or just search Texas Rod Builders

Hi! I'm Terry! I live in Webster (Clear Lake) and work at Fishing Tackle Unlimited. Started building rods in the spring oof 2007 and it has been a whirl wind in my life. I can't wait to see what happens in the next 3 years! Pat and I were 2 of the orginal founding members of the Texas Rod Builders and are wowed by its progress and potential. We feel like so much of its potential is still untapped!
Terry G. I really love your art and hope to buy some to hang on my walls. Kyle, man I am glad you are stepping up and trying to help out the website. Kevin I would love to look over your shoulder when you are building one of your masterpieces. If you are coming to Texas "Welcome" we need you. Allen thanks for the Facebook work and you might want to get with Kyle and help out with our website. Terry you are the go to guy. I appreciate your dedication and hard work. I think you are the best possible candidate for president. Alex new people like you are what keeps this thing going, growing, and showing the world of rodbuilding what it is all about. Thanks to all of you. Pat
I'm one of the other "Honorary" members from outside Texas and am very proud to be part of such a fine group of dedicated builders & teachers.
I build everything from fly to stand-up tuna rods. My dad & I run a small rod building business called Snake River Rods.
www.snakeriverrods.org
In an effort to help promote the craft of custom rod building world wide, I created a website where rod builders who create tutorials, utility files, videos, & other teaching aids can have them posted for download 24/7 instead of the need to send them via email to many many email requests. I'm amaized by the number of contributors who have participated thus far and look forward to many more! I also search the net from time to time and post links to other great rod building resorces and information when I find them.
I live in Allen, Tx, a northern suburb of Dallas. I'm a hobby builder, mainly wade rods. I enjoy the sharing of technique info, as well as contributing to our RFS program. Glad to see a renewed interest on our site!

Terry..... That was a "Once In A Lifetime" Copperhead skin....on a 8 wgt.flyrod blank....built for my brother....I call it The Incredible Brother Rod !!..
I have only been building rods for about 6 months, so the term "newbie" fits quite well. I joined TRB in Sept. 09, build mostly inshore saltwater rods, don't sell any just give them away to friends and relatives. I really enjoy seeing all the good work being done by the other members. Keep it up.
My name is Trey Shaw.... I currently live in the Houston area (Pearland actually). I mostly build bait casting and spinning rods (inshore saltwater rods). I'm a little new to the rod building but my father has been making rod for over 35 years. So, I guess I'm not really that new to rod building as a whole. Looking forward to meeting some of the other TRB members at saturday's meeting. Hope everyone has a good rest of the week.

Hello Fello Rod Building Enthusiasts! I'm Alan Heuston, my wife is Carol. We joined TRB very early on. We're both green @ rod building, but eager to learn. Carol is much into thread weaving & I'm probably more into fit & performance. We split time between north Houston & Sargent. Glad to hear from all of you! Alan.

Doug Weissinger here. League City. New to rod building. So far have built one 8' crankbait stick and stripped and reinstalled new guides on 4 others. I'm a micro guide convert. If you think your rod building location is a mess - you should see mine! 4000 miles of 2" thread. I'm the inverse of the Shell Answer man. Guess you could call me the League City question man. Terry @ FTU probably winches when he sees me walk in the door. Right now not much conserned with art work - though I for sure appreciate it.
Can someone fill me in on the RFS program and make suggestions as to what I can do to volunteer time in that area?
Doug I am Pat Helton and I am the director of the Rods For Soldier program. I can always use some help building rods. Right now I don't have any blanks and components. I will be going to the ICRBE show this month and hope to find some good deals while I am there. As soon as I get stocked up we can get together and I will give you the stuff to build a rod or two. Of course if you have stuff on hand and want to build a soldier rod with it that would be great..Pat
There's a BUNCH of new people that I need to meet at the rodbuilders day in March! Welcome all. Alan, are you and Carol still a go on the NC trip? If so, I'll see ya'll in High Point in a couple of weeks. Jerry

Pat, I've been doing this all of about 2 weeks. As you might suspect "on hand" is thread, finish and seat/grip epoxy. Got a box full of old guides their value wouldn't equal 100 feet of thread but that's about it.
Is there any particular style/type of rod that folks are building? I fish strictly freshwater/bass and any knowledge I have will be contained within that area of interest. But that doesn't mean I can't/won't do anything else.
I live about 5 miles from FTU in Houston so if you ever want to meet up there let me know.
You bet, Raymond! I know Pat Helton and Bill Cason will be there, and maybe Terry Jones and the co-owner of FTU, Danny Meyer. We gonna have GOOD time. Kyle, I don't snore THAT much! Jerry
I am Robbie Smith from NC and I am a big fan of spirit of TRB, the skins and friendship of MLV, the weaves of Raymond, and grips of Kevin Graybeal. I have never built a rod but have been actively involved in this craft through my association with FishHawk Threads. FishHawk is under new ownership but I wish to move forward in this craft as a future rod builder. I will look to this group for inspiration and education. Thanks for making me feel welcome!
Welcome aboard Doug and Robbie! You guys will find a great bunch of rod builders here who will go out of their way to help in any way they can. As Ray said - we all are newbies in one way or another, and learn from each other all the time. And THAT'S what makes this craft so great - the sharing of ideas.

Thanks Terry... The new middle age may well be 65 but best I can tell someone forgot to inform the CRS disease of that. Started creeping up on me in the my late 50's....
Hi, My name is Rusty Byrley and I'm from Pasadena but moved to Nacogdoches in 1977. I began wrapping in 1970 when I was about 12 or so.I quit cold turkey in 1988 but since have picked it up again in the past few years. I am amazed at how much information is out there these days and the new ideas there are in custom rod building. I mainly build bass and musky rods but love ultra lites. I am also an accomplished lure artist and jig tyer. My website is presently under construction.
Howdy! My name is Travis Johnson and I live way down south in Harlingen. I have been building rods for myself and some family for a couple of years now. It is a fun and addicting hobby. With 2 small kids and another one on the way, I can't fish as much as I would like to, but building rods is the next best thing. I'll post some pics of my most recent projects when I get a chance to take some pics. This is a great forum with a wealth of knowledge. I'm also Kyle's cousin and longtime fishing buddy and like to think I was the reason he got into rod building. Of course his skills have greatly surpassed mine since then. Anyway, just wanted to say hi.
