What is the purpose of Texas Rod Builders?

In the spirit of making the club stronger and more effective, I wanted to ask this question, give my thoughts, and open it up to a little discussion about how we can get where we want to be.

Here's what I came up with so far:

-          Provide a source of information to new builders and people who are interested in getting into building

-          Provide a network of builders who can help each other out with questions or problems with their builds

-          Provide a source for fishermen/customers to connect with a custom builder

-          Give back to the community through the Rods for Soldiers program

-          Provide a source for camaraderie between builders  through events, gatherings, and the internet forum

Please add to this if there's anything I missed!!!

There's alot of enthusiasm about this club, and if we focus it a little, I think we can make the club that much more successful. Post up your thoughts!!!!

well first i would like to know why there are so many TRB boards and there purpose , i am guessing "size restrictions" i dont know.

A. i some what agree with what Kyle has laid out above but provisions.
1. i like using real names.
2. i like giving back to the community but not only to the soldiers but to our youth also.
3. information, information, information, thats what drives a good forum/ board, provide that and you will have a never ending of incoming users and information.

i after much thought some what agree with ya Kyle but i would like to hear from the founding members on what there aspirations were when they started the board.

I think the TRB Boards and the Rod Rack needs to be condensed...and be more efficient.....until the traffic increases, I don't think there is a need for so many catagories...
         Just my 02...smile

I agree with all of the above... What I was really going for with this post is to find out what everybody wants out of the club and what purposes we're trying to serve. Once that's nailed down, we can start making sure that we're doing what it takes to achieve our goals!

In my case, being 300-400 miles away, it is hard to be very active in a club..all I can say is Thank Goodness for the Internet !!...biggrin

ok from a novice's point of view, keep the vault and which way we can and add to it- always no matter what it is (for novices like me even simple things help).

a forum is a must , breaking it down into categories is also a must "with pictures"  and being able to upload from one's own computer and not having to first post them on some web service is a must.

a private section for only due's paying members to talk club business, a must !

mixed feelings on a novice forum and a professional forum, i tend want to have that a open forum.

a sub section for companies that support the board and its members and allowing them to talk about there products and discounts for the paying members.

i respect the amount of work Terry has put in to building all this stuff and we do need to keep that in mind .

more coming later --maybe, hehe

MaryLou-

I'm in Austin now, so I know how you feel. Texas is a mighty big place, so this site is a great spot for everyone to get together!! We have lots of long range members, and some of them are more active in the club than most!

When the four of us. (Terry Jones, Jim Lueck, Doug Moore, and Myself) got to together. Our main purpose was to learn from each other and to pass our skills on to new rodbuilders. We had no initial plans or aspirations other than that. So far we are doing a great job of learning and teaching the skills of rodbuilding. The Rods For Soldiers was our first project and since I suggested it I was stuck with it.. I am very proud of RFS and as most of you know we also do fundraiser rods and rods for police and firemen.
Terry is doing a great job teaching classes to new builders. He has plans for at least one class a month and hopefully more. Terry does need our help, it is way to much for one person to handle. I encourage you to volunteer to help him. We will be meeting tomorrow at 2:00 PM to plan our rodbuilding classes for the 23rd. Come if you can.
Danny Meyer has been really good to us. He not only provides us with a meeting place, he has been a great supporter of RFS. He has donated hundreds of dollars worth of blanks and components. Besides he gave Terry a job so he wouldn't be standing at an intersection with a sign saying "Build you a custom rod for food."
Thanks Kyle, MLV, and Terry G. for trying to stir up interest in our websites.
Pat
