Well after working up 8 new patterns on PicToWeave months ago I finally got around to doing one. Not without a fight though. First I find a knot in the main thread half way thru, I end up breaking 4 threads using some very old thread, and add to that I just have been low on motivation. It is an 8 layer, 10 color, 82x107 thread monster that I put on a UL trout rod. the diameter is less than 3/8th inch thus this picture is a composite. Also I havent packed or flattened it yet. I will repost the picture when I have finish on it because I think the subtle colors will be easier to see them.
SWEET, Doc! My mind can't process 8 layers/10 colors. Doc, for us novice weavers, on such a small rod as this, is it almost a 360 degree? Did you use a flat loom or the WW? Thanks, Jerry
The other thing I like about these jigs is the closeness to the rod that the thread is kept. Usually results in tight wraps to start with and less packing and rolling. The one above has now got a coat of CP on it and Thre are places in it that it looks painted rather than thread. Also these are really quick to set up on a rod.
I would love to see this one in person. I was shocked when I saw my first weaves in person and how they looked like a decal or they were painted. Using a jig that is close to the rod makes sense because it would decrease the static angle of the the thread as you go through the layers. Doc, is that jig the same ones that Mark sells for you? You have a 50, 80, and 100 thread jigs there, all at the same price? Whats the diff? A jig and your DVD set is my next purchase!
The size jig really only depends on the size rods you are working on. Must builders get in a niche and the bulk of their work come in the same basic sizes so I use a jig appropriate for the patterns and blank. Yes Mark sells all my stuff.
