Found this and right now it is just a trial...but it looks great and is reasonable. It will be much easier to communcate with everyone and to get feedback by just posting thread. There ia not a lot of control now, but after we subscribe to the Gold package....it looks like it will do everything we want! http://www.activeboard.com/pricing.spark?sparkKey=87cb951277ed561164fe273942ec5b1fb0
Please post away! Let me know your thoughts! There are others out there, but this one looks good!
I assumed, and yours is a good question, that is was views. Here is the Gold Pacakge explanation...
Pricing Explanation Gold Active Board prices are based are based on the number of times your forum is viewed each month. Your monthly fee includes a fixed number of page views (ie 10,000 views for $4.95/mo). If your forum generates more traffic than the amount of your plan, you will be assessed the difference between the actual views and the amount of your plan based on the overage fee (ie $0.50 per thousand extra views at the base level).
So 100,000 views would be $50
It could add up...thats why I'm asking what people think....
Whatever it takes to get it going and keep it up. If we have to pay a little something or have a rod auction I will be willing to help where I can. I have a couple ofdoor prizes for the Doyle meeting. Let me know where to send them too.
That is what I think John. This is a great tool and we can talk more freely here than on 2cool or anywhere else. Most clubs have to deal with printing and postage and we wont have that expense (for the most part). We can do sticky threads here..You can post rod building questions...etc. I think the rod building tutorials and things like that can still go on the web-site. I have noticed the views on this is different than2cool. This one counts everytime something is opened...2cool only counts the first time someone opens...ie if I open a thread on 2cool 10 times it only counts it once.
So the general idea is a board for members only? Are there any 1 time start up costs for this. If not, cyber real estate is rather affordable, isn't it? .....Jim
It looks like you can set it up different ways. You can have Anyone can post - bad idea If you logon you can post TRB members only can post
It would be up to us..I could go either way from TRB Members only to anyone can sign up to post, but I tink it should be full names and no handles...cuts down on crap.
The main ideas is this would be where we could post club info easily, people can comment on it, take polls, show projects....it is really endless. It has a calender for events...we could post club meetings ... this would cut down the need for a Web master to constantly modify the web site for on-going changes. The biggest deal is everyone can participate.
Great idea. Are you thinking this in lieu of a website or in addition to one? I vote 100% real names. In fact I've been tempted to change my 2cool to my real name. ,,,Jim
I think we still need a web-site. I was talking to Jeff about getting someone to build us a web-site, but it could be expensive and you have to have him modify it for setting clubs dates and such. With this, we can keep a basic site I can maintain, then use the forum for most of the communications.
This looks great to me. It is nice and neat and easy to navigate. Of course I am sure more stuff will be added. I think using real names is great. As far as who can post maybe we should keep it just members, that way we could better control the board and it would be another incentive to join TRB.

I am all for controlling this board to members only....

I agree w/Pat it would give TRB an incentive, the idea of no handles is great also.
Whassup Doug! glad you made it here! I am going to invite the rest of the members here tonight and I will request from them they don't give out this URL. While we are using the "Free Forum", I don't have any control over who registers. When we go to the Gold Package...it will be an approval process. We should be OK for now!
Terry if it's ok I'd like to try to invite a friend that most everyone knows (Cap't Lloyd Pepper). Alan Heuston
Indeed it would be an honor. Lloyd Pepper is a rodbuilding legend, especially around Texas Gulf Coast. I can remember many years ago seeing his work, and thinking how nice those custom rods looked. Not long after that a friend gave me an old beat up unbuilt rodblank,( he thought it was some kind of cb antenna) I tried it and it's been downhill ever since.

My webmaster , who I have had for the past five years, only charges 120.00 a year, with unlimted pages and changes...and photos....comes with 250 business cards, to boot !!
