Spiral Bass Rod with Abalone

First try at Abalone and it worked great. I will definitely use it again. I hope the user likes red because there is a lot of it on this rod.

The blank is FTU-8MB783 with spiral wrapped Fuji 3.5 guides. The exposed part of the blank in the reel seat also got wrapped in a piece of Abalone.

As par pictures are not the best and could not get a good picture of the small guides.

The Abalone is the new veneer offered by Kevin Knox at Anglers Envy (www.anglersenvy.com/veneer-gallery). Easy to put on with no cracking. Below are the steps I used in putting it on the blank.

- Cut to fit the blank
- Boil for 10 minutes in water
- Slowly turn the blank while sticking the veneer down. Veneer comes with glue on the back.
- Wrap with thread to hold down. I left it this way overnight.
- Before applying the epoxy I cleaned up the edge where the veneer overlaps by removing any of the exposed glue. Also went over the edge with a Sharpie (Red to match the color). By doing this the edge is very hard to see.
