New Members

I wanted to welcome 2 new members since I released the membership list last week.

Kevin Graybeal- He comes to us from Edgewater Florida and is known as Mosquito Lagoon on 2cool. He fishes for Trout and Reds there and also Fly Fishes..He is Mosquito Lagoon Custom Rods

Mark Blabaum - has joined our ranks! I don't think he needs any introduction, but for those that aren't familiar with his work, please go here to marvel at his work! Mark hails in Wisconsin..

3 Members that joined that were on the list, but joined late and I wanted to make noteworthy.

Alan Pierce - is from Houston and is already making contributions to TRB. His rod business is "My Custom Rods" and here is his web-site... www.mycustomrod.com

Bob Reed - of Marsh Rat Rods - www.marshratrods.com . Bob has a thriving business building Custom Rods in Alvin with his wife Dorris. Bob has attended both local meetings and is a wealth of building knowledge.

Lloyd Pepper - anyone in the houston area that builds rods (or even fishes) knows Lloyd. He has been building rods for 40 years and is a local icon. He and hiw wife Cookie reside in Galveston. I encourage you to chat with Lloyd, as he (and Cookie) are a history book on  fishing on the Texas coast. He will be at the Rod Show in September and we are trying to encourage him to bring his vintage lures and equipment. He has complete collections of red Ambassador reels he wants to get rid of. Lloyd does not have internet...no email, so you will have to call him..the old fashion way...with a phone!

Everyone please welcome all of our new members!

Welcome Kevin, I'd  be curious as to the differences and similarities of the gear and techniques in your area as they compare to the Tx. Gulf coast. What makes up  a topnotch setup for say wading for trout and reds? Baitcasters or spinners more popular? Things like that. What type rods do you get the most requests for? With the variety of fishing venues in your area, I'll bet you have a widely varied personal collection.lol. again welcome....good folks here.

Thanks Jim! What makes up a topnotch setup for wading for trout and reds?
I would have to say that in Mosquito Lagoon it's either a 7-8ft medium spinning rig, or a 9ft 7-9wt fly rod. I haven't built a baitcaster in many years.
Most of my spinning rigs are 7.5ft medium action designed to free-line shrimp, while my favorite fly rod is a 7wt fast action for sight fishing with either a Merkin or Clouser.
While I haven't fished Texas(other than here in Mosquito Lagoon, East Texas),many of the guides that I build for have, and tell me that it is a slightly different ballgame. I can't wait to try it!
