A surprise and wonderful gift from two great rod craftsmen

Often in rod building we share information and once in a while we receive heartfelt thank you's. Not that we should look for them because giving is just that - GIVING. For a couple years now I have been working with two exceptional rod artists and masters in their preferred techniques(Putter and Mark Blabaum) on a project called Kustom for Kids. A program dedicated to helping our youth to learn about building their own custome rods. It has been a very rewarding project for all concerned in the project past and present. Well in March these two sent me a surprise as a thank you for my efforts and talents both in rod art and secret selling techniques(that is a whole other story lol) It really blew me away. I think Randy was the instigator because I had done a couple anniversary rods for his wonderful wife Peg. Anyway it amazed me when the rod showed up in the same tube as the finished Kustom for Kids rod. I didnt notice right away it was for me. I was thinking why do we have two rods and who worked on them. Well long story short then I saw it was for me. Really made me misty(men dont cry) and of course I thanked them profusely. Well a couple days ago a package shows up at the door from Putter. I am thinking, must be parts for something coming or maybe some old thread(I get a lot of that) So again the big Gotcha. This time it is a new Diawa reel that is totally marbled and a sticker to match the rod. Anyway the moral of the story is that more often than we realize there are people who appreciate others efforts and surprise us out of the blue. Bottom line for me is the craft of Rod Building is loaded with caring people and the friendships I have formed in this craft/hobby/business are some of the closest I have in my life. Thanks again to Putter and Mark for such a great honor. I have a collage of the rod first then of the reel on the rod and finally a second shot of the Moire wrap under the screaming eagle sticker. You might note that the color scheme is RWB. Big surprise there huh??? Some of you may see this post on a couple different sites that might enjoy the story thought it doesnt really fit into the technical part of rod building. More about the people in it. Anyway I hope you enjoy.
